Bread for Peace Day
Symbol of life, hope, prosperity, unity and sharing, a necessity for every human being of any culture.

I will give you rain in due season, so that the land will bear its crops, and the trees their fruit; your threshing will last till vintage time, and your vintage till the time for sowing, and you will have food to eat in abundance.
I will establish peace in the land, that you may lie down to rest without anxiety. I will rid the country of ravenous beasts, and keep the sword of war from sweeping across your land.
(Leviticus 26, 4-6)

On the 1st of June 2005, 50 Israeli women passed the check point to meet 50 Palestinian women in front of the bakery of Samar Sahhar of Bethany, near Jerusalem. In different cities of Italy many ovens were set up in the streets so that passers-by could bake bread, and at the same time many mothers at children’s schools baked bread as we did in Bethany.

This landmark event was organized by Angelica Edna Calò Livné, Israeli founder of Beresheet LaShalom Foundation, Israel, and her Palestinian friend Samar Sahhar, founder of Lazarus Home for Girls of Bethany, with whom she shares projects in Israel and PA territory on coexistence of Arabs and Jews in Israel.

The message was received by many all over Italy, Israel and Palestine and the day was one of great success and excitement. Our idea for next year is to organize this emotional and successful event, on the same basis, in as many other places as possible all over the world.

We would like to invite you to take part and share our vision of bringing a simple message of humanity to all, baking bread together as a symbol of peace.
